Audit Criteria
Our Approach
What makes StairlessJourney different
We don't rely on self-reported data or guesswork. Every listing is physically assessed by our team before it goes live.
We Verify
We don't take anyone's word for it. Every place on our platform has been checked by a trained volunteer or team member.
We Audit
Every listing is assessed across 10+ accessibility criteria — from ramp angles to toilet dimensions to staff awareness.
We Clarify
We tell you exactly what to expect — before you arrive. Not vague promises. Specific, honest information.

Our Story
We believe everyone deserves to arrive with confidence.
StairlessJourney exists because people with disabilities shouldn't have to gamble on whether a place is truly accessible. We verify so you don't have to wonder.
The Founder
Started by someone who understands why it matters.
StairlessJourney was founded by Pratik, a 14-year-old changemaker from Pune, with a deep personal connection to disability inclusion. What started as a personal frustration — the gap between what accessibility information promises and what actually exists — became a movement.
Pratik is also a published author. At 14, he has spoken to students, mentors, and institutions about why accessibility isn't a charity — it's a right.
His vision is simple: a fully mapped, verified India where no one with a disability arrives somewhere and discovers they can't get in.

The Problem
Why we exist
Google Maps calls a place "wheelchair accessible." You arrive. There are three stairs at the entrance. Nobody thought to update it.
Businesses self-report accessibility features they haven't actually checked. Listings go stale. People with disabilities pay the price — not just in inconvenience, but in dignity.
StairlessJourney is built on one principle: verified clarity. We check. We photograph. We update. So that your journey can begin before you leave home.

Accessibility Commitment
This website is designed and built to be usable by everyone — regardless of ability, device, or circumstance.
Website Accessibility
What we've built into this website
High Contrast & Color-Blind Modes
Toggle high contrast, or apply one of four color-blindness filters (Protanopia, Deuteranopia, Tritanopia, Achromatopsia) using the accessibility widget in the bottom-right corner. All text meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast by default.
Adjustable Font Size & Dyslexia Font
Increase or decrease font size with the A+/A− controls, or switch to OpenDyslexic — a typeface designed to help readers with dyslexia. Your preferences are saved across visits.
Keyboard Navigation
Every interactive element — buttons, links, forms, modals, the photo lightbox — is fully keyboard navigable. Use Tab to move forward, Shift+Tab to go back, Enter or Space to activate.
Screen Reader Compatible
Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and meaningful alt text ensure compatibility with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. We use proper roles, live regions, and descriptive labels throughout.
Reduce Motion
We respect the OS-level prefers-reduced-motion setting, and you can also toggle it manually. Scroll animations and parallax effects pause when reduced motion is on.
Link Highlighter & Focus Boost
Toggle stronger link underlines and outlines, plus boosted focus rings — useful for users with low vision or motor impairments who rely on clear visual targets.
No Autoplay Content
We never autoplay video or audio. All media is user-initiated, and we don't use disruptive popups or carousels that move on their own.
Mobile Responsive
The website is fully responsive and works on all screen sizes — from a small phone to a large desktop monitor, including 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling.
WCAG 2.1 AA Target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 Level AA. This is an ongoing commitment — we regularly review and improve our accessibility based on real user feedback.
